    515 Army Cadet Unit Bunbury is hosting an open day to provide an insight in the life of an Army cadet.

    Cadets will demonstrate drill, weapons first aid, radio procedure, field craft and living in the field environment.

    The Australian Army Cadets is a leading national youth development organisation with the character and values of the Australian Army, founded on strong community partnership, fostering and supporting an ongoing interest in the Australian Army.

    Boys and girls from 13 a to 18 years old are encourage to join, to learn the core values of the AAC-Courage-Initiative -Respect and Teamwork Kids will have a chance to get "hands on"and enjoy a sausage sizzle afterwards

    Featuring vintage agricultural machinery, 'granny's kitchen and more!

    On Sunday, February 25, the South West Rail and Heritage Centre’s “From Farm to Fork” open day runs from 10am to 2pm and will feature vintage agricultural machinery, inform visitors of the journey from “the farm to your fork” and honour those pioneers who established the primary industries so important to our state’s development.

    Our special ‘granny’s kitchen” will enable visiting children (and adults) to try their hand at making some food the old fashioned way.

    Our resident groups, the Boyanup Foundation Blacksmiths, Capel Men's Shed, Preston River Old Machinery Group, Rail Heritage WA and South West Model Railway Group will all be in action.

    Light refreshments will be available from the picnic van and the sausages will be a-sizzling!

    The Plantagenet Historical Society is inviting you to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Old Police Station

    The Plantagenet Historical Society is inviting you to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Old Police Station on Albany Highway, Mount Barker on the 3 March 2018 from 10am-3pm.

    There is much to commemorate as this historic building, originally opened in 1868 and now a museum, gives a glimpse into its fascinating and varied past. The museum and gardens will be open for you to explore. This free family event will be held in beautiful surroundings and offers plenty of entertainment for everyone, and provides an opportunity to discover some of our local history. Get into the spirit of the day and dress up in period costume to have a photo taken. A local bush poet, skits presented by the Plantagenet Players, and music by the Caledonian Pipe Band Albany in conjunction with a member of the Western Australia Police Pipe Band as well as local musicians will entertain you while you enjoy a variety of food and drinks. There will be plenty for the children to enjoy with free face painting and pony rides. Police cars, vintage machinery, cars and motorbikes and other historical information will be on display.

    This event commemorates a significant time in the region’s development and will be attended by Police Minister Michelle Roberts, the Commissioner of Police Chris Dawson, Terry Redman MLA, the Great Southern police district Superintendent, members of the Retired Police Officers Association and the Western Australian Police Union.

    The event is proudly supported by Lotterywest, Southern Ports, Bendigo Bank Mt Barker, Shire of Plantagenet, Southern Haulage, Ray White, Mt Barker Post Office, WA Police Union, Mt Barker Chickens, Rick Wilson’s office and many community groups and local businesses.

    The 1.6km swim will start from and finish at the Bunbury Rowing Club.

    Registration on the day is between 1.30pm to 2.30pm, followed by a mass start at 3.00pm.
